Wisdom and Knowledge be yours,
It is with deepest regret that I wish to inform you and make you aware of the death of Yulgo of Goldgrain. His long
association as a lay-member with our esteemed temple of learning, font of reason and foundry of fact, Yolta’s home
of information here in Havyr, gives us all pause as we ponder his passing.
It may help your sense of loss to learn that he was surely welcomed into Yolta's sacred assembly of Logicym, his civilized realm of perfect culture and omniscience,
as the reward after a lifetime of commitment spanning some 77 years.
It may also assuage your pain to know that he has left us a rather large bequest, and a quite unexpected one at that.
Not gold, gems or property, but the most lasting and precious gift of all: furthering our Lord Yolta’s gifts of Wisdom
and Knowledge.
As Lysen of this Temple I had met Yulgo on many occasions, whether doing research, reading quietly to our Lord, or
merely sharing knowledge with one of our Clergy. Yet I had no idea he had undertaken the single-handed recounting of
the History, Peoples and Lands of our entire world.
So great a commission would have made wary our most learned Priests, and our lay brothers at the Scholia would never
consider so massive an enterprise.
Yet this humble little man, with his bald pate bobbing into this hall and that, has left us what I say in confidence
the most singular compendium of current fact and figure in all history.
Make no mistake that this is hyperbole, for the thousands of pages, hundreds of maps and dozens of associated texts,
tomes and scrolls speak of a man obsessed with all aspects of our world.
Yulgo’s aunt, with whom he lived for virtually all his adult life, was as surprised as we were to learn that his chamber
was stacked high with his life work. She did comment that he had many odd visitors, often at odd hours, but surely this
must be the case, for his knowledge of hidden, lost and even secret wisdom exceeds all others I have ever heard of or met.
And in every case that I have been able to check, his facts are accurate, complete, and beyond doubt. How he came by this
information may never be known, but it is Yulgo’s request that I share this veritable treasure-trove with you, the members
of our Temple.
This may take years to transcribe, and it will be done verbatim – for I fear that in "correcting" a perceived
error we may in fact be wrong ourselves – with spelling and grammar intact as he wrote it, but it will be completed. That
is my solemn promise to you in memory of so unassuming a man of such great insight and learning. It is indeed a gift beyond
compare.
I have informed the Wissen in Loridym of all these gifts, and of the details of Yulgo’s bequest. Yolta in his Wisdom
will not take it amiss that I share the Wissen’s response. When made aware that Yulgo had never, to the best of my knowledge,
ever left the bounds of our city, he replied, "Yulgo apparently flew the walls many times, and now ‘I’ll-go’ -- we’ll ‘All-go’ --
on a journey thanks to him".
With that great voyage in mind, I respectfully offer you the fruits of Yulgo’s efforts, and in his memory, invite you to partake
in his Information and Insight.
Yours in Wisdom and Knowledge,
I remain,
Asyrbym Fallow
Lysen of Yolta’s Temple in Havyr
