Magic makes instantaneous transport possible, and can levitate enormous loads with no support at all.
However, these powers are rare and often used to other ends than toting people or things over great distances.
The more mundane means of travel are prohibitively expense for most individuals, and things like paved roads are
rare for this reason. Moreover, there are active forces beyond erosion and wear-and-tear that make roads a challenge:
most Humanoids will destroy such intrusions with little encouragement. Thus, despite the ability of a few to visit
every corner of their world as they wish, the overwhelming majority of inhabitants never leave their home village,
let alone their home country. It follows that trade is stunted, and highly profitable
for those who successfully brave the dangers to bring goods from one state to another. In general, a horse and perhaps
a simple wagon behind it is the highest level of transport that most will ever see. And their own two feet the only
transport that most will use.
