While there is a grain of truth in the charge that these are merely social clubs or associations for the furthering of members political plans, the standards
for entrance and membership are so high as to usually ensure that members merit whatever rewards accrue them just for belonging to the Order. The most famous
of these Orders are known Trishore-wide, and their members treated like visiting nobility virtually everywhere they go. Entrance standards are the greatest
barrier to admittance, but most also have very specific rules of conduct or a code of behavior which must be followed or risk expulsion (particularly these
Paladin "Holy" Honourary Orders).
Rare in the extreme, the Honourary Paladin Fighting Orders, or Holy Orders, build on the rarity of Paladins, Orders for Paladins, and layers on the high entrance
standards and usual high level requirements of an Honourary Order. On the other hand, the Honourary Holy Orders are certainly the most respected of all Orders, with
members usually receiving a stipend from the sponsor, and clout equivalent to low or even middle nobility in most regions.
Revered Order of the Holy Sword - this order recognizes service to Syphide, in terms of exemplary courage in defense of her principles, worshippers or temple property. Members have no responsibilities other than helping to counsel congregations or helping senior priests interpret religious doctrine. Membership in attained by having two sponsors: a priest or cleric of Syphide (of at least 8th level), and an active member of the Order. The main chapter is in Iftos (in the Onuin Holdings), with branches in Seapoint (in Venelland) and Sogambrium (in the Denlor Plains). Quite a few members are retirees who were members of the Order of the White Lance. Member benefits include a small private prayer cell in their home temple, full burial service and rites when they die, and a +2 reaction bonus from all lawful and neutral NPCs. Current membership is a mere 18 Paladins.
Order of the Resting Steed - the most prestigious Order east of the Dolomite Mountains, this Order is notable for the fact that it accepts Paladins who worship Amun no matter what their country of origin. Such is the privilege of admittance to this Order that Paladins who would have been mortal enemies on the battlefield (i.e. one from Schew and one from the Ocean Tribes) readily control their emotions during events. Primarily a social organization, the Order is hosted for a free, lavish feast every spring, usually on alternate years by the rulers of Schew and the Ocean Tribes who vie to hold the most impressive event. At other times members counsel younger Paladins, serve as government advisors, and officiate at tournaments. There are no chapters as such, but all churches of Amun act as meeting and gathering points. To become a member, one must be at least 12th level, have the Etiquette proficiency, and worship Amun. Moreover, those meeting these standards must have two sponsors: a member of the royalty of his homeland and an active member in the order, and inductions are held at the annual feast. Member benefits include interest free loans, unlimited access to senior government and church officials, and a +3 bonus to all reaction rolls from all lawful and neutral NPCs. Membership is currently just 32 Paladins.
Most Noble Order of the Dragon - this Order honours outstanding military service. Its members have distinguished themselves through heroism and gallantry on the battlefield. While there are no formal responsibilities, their High Officers have rallied them to fight as an elite force in a few dire emergencies. All members of the Noble Order of the Holy Battle are automatically eligible for membership if they reach 10th level. Other Paladins may be offered membership only by either demonstrating military achievement above and beyond the call of duty (such as routing or defeating an enemy army), or by being appointed by both the King of Cadorna and the High Chamberlain. There are two chapters of this Order in the Kingdom of Cadorna, one in Anchor Castle and the other in Spelock. Member benefits include personal armour, war horses, weapons and equipment at no charge. Also, upon induction each new member is supplied with an ornate personalized set of full plate armor, bestowed upon him by the King a special ceremony. There are currently only 11 members.
