GI HABLOS

GI HABLOS ("The Seal" in Geldian)
Goals: to halt the spread of evil and to return Trishore to a "Golden Age"

Long predating Firefall, and secretive beyond measure, this Secret Society is the measure for all others to follow. They have been exposed (by their own choice) only once, when they created the Brotherhood of the Sigil in 501 PF, but they were premature and have learned never to make that mistake again.

They alone know the full secrets of the Gypsy Queens. They alone among humans know the full story of the Elvish sundering. They alone among humans have been given access (in almost every case) to the secrets of the Steel Dragons. They know the origins of Haz, the status of Dwelvenhall, the details of every other Secret Society, who built the Tower of Knowledge (they did) and what its powers are, and much, much more. But despite all of this, they are impotent.

One of the dangers of their goals (to which every member is committed to with their dying breath) is that like all wishes, the means are open to interpretation. So that while they have unbelievable power, virtually limitless resources, and knowledge without peer, they are afraid to act for fear of making another tragic mistake. Some argue that they need only turn the clock back 5,000 years to achieve all their goals. Others that true peace and prosperity can come only after death when all receive their ultimate reward, and as such that intelligent life should be scoured from Trishore's face. Both interpretations can't be right, and these are but two of the conflicting ideas which have paralyzed this organization for over 3,000 years.

Gi Hablos has a "front" organization, which in its own right is highly secretive and well hidden (nearly as secretive as Gi Hablos itself), and serves as a screening process and proving ground for those who might someday be trusted to enter the true inner circle. Known as the "Brotherhood of the Sigil" (after the society's initial efforts eons ago), this name serves as a trigger that results in close scrutiny to anyone who seeks to research this topic or time in history.

Senior Members of Gi Hablos often come from the same family, with the secrets and knowledge passed from parent to child for countless generations. Other notable current members include Hierophant Druids, a Steel Dragon, a Couatl, and in the past has even included L.G. Aboleths and assorted L.G. undead.

Their name comes from ancient Golden Era times when secret scrolls were placed in earthen containers, "sealed" with clay and buried in hidden places to protect them. This was done by a loose affiliation of Geldian Sages who wished future generations to have a clear picture of their past and where they had come from.
