The images shown here are used elsewhere in these records, but they are collected here for ease of reference. It is also possible to see the variety and beauty that have evolved.
While not every country or region will recognize every shield or icon, many are so well known so as to be virtually universal. Whether well known or not, the penalties for misuse, or for assuming the heraldry of an organization without its approval are severe. Usually immediate death is the most generous penalty: many organizations have much worse fines for such acts.
