Seaholder realm pennant SEAHOLDERS REALM
OF MENDOSIA
Seaholder realm pennant

MAPS

Home to the greatest sailors and explorers in all of eastern Trishore, this land is still little known to most other nations. Set apart physically by their island state, and the unpredictable and violent currents and weather of their seas, few outsiders can even reach their home. More than that though, they are somewhat xenophobic, and do not welcome outsiders.

Their culture and ways have been set for millennia, and their leaders fear that they might be tainted, while the masses fear the supposed powers and “evils” that they have heard lurk in the outer world. They are by no means country bumpkins, but the fact that only their ship captains and navigators speak Common tells much of their perspective on the outside world.

Even the name is confusing and used differently in a variety of situations. The large island that is their home is called Mendosia, and most natives call themselves Mendosians. However, most outsiders call the humans living here Seaholders, in honour of their vaunted seamanship and close relationship to the waters that surround their island. The rulers, and most sages, combine the two more formally and call the island Mendosia and the civilization the Seaholders Realm of Mendosia.

BACKGROUND

Related to the Angnem Jungle Barbarians of northern Zakhara to their south-west, the Mendosians too fled approaching Sapoy migrants over 9,000 years ago by sea. About 4600 years ago they were part of the Sulosian Windriders State and built cities like Yanil on their eastern shore.

However, while they recovered from Firefall, they were all but forgotten for many thousands of years. Not until the Elemental Wars (2822) began did they seek out any outside contact or help, and were it not for the foresight and wisdom of a great leader they might well have been overwhelmed or subsumed by some greater power in the years since.
