Shield of Drinen Federation MERCHANT COMPANIES Shield of Drinen Federation

TRAIL BLAZES

Virtually every family has their own Merchant Company (caravans and traders taking goods to other regions by overland or by sea), and in some cases families have joined their Companies to create Trading Costers. These Costers allow for cost efficiencies and greater safety due to larger numbers. Beyond the simple creation of a Coster, some Trading Costers reach a level of presence and size where they become well known and popular across a huge area.

NORTHWEST REGION

Of the several Costers in the northwest Region, two have reached that level of fame.

  • SILVER DUST TRADING COSTER: Sea trade specialists, run by families Thulalumb, Phelbos and Broadsword
  • RED WING MERCHANT COMPANY: Long range carriers, run by families Jermiah, Gimbet and Yawgus (NE)

NORTHEAST REGION

In the northeast Region there are three Trading Costers which have reached the level of "fame" across a wide area. The Swift Trading Coster is noted in particular for its reach and wealth: attacks on its caravans have been replied to in some cases by retribution involving forces of nearly army size. They also maintain their own Wayhouses along several of their own more distant and profitable routes.

  • SWIFT TRADING COSTER: Manage huge caravans, run by families Metholane, Niall and Festus
  • MASTER MERCHANT COMPANY: Specialize in handling fragile goods, run by families Telgon and Vitner
  • THREE EYES DEALING COSTER: Do only a major spring and a summer caravan, run by Ingor and Thulalumb

SOUTHERN REGION

In the southern Region there is only one Trading Coster which have reached the level of "fame" across a wide area, but each of the remaining family’s Merchant Companies are very strong and profitable in their own right. For example, while not well known outside of the Drinen Federation, family Ullik’s association with Dwarven leaders from both the Crystal Halls and The Rift makes their privately held Company very profitable. Also, Mercenary guards repute the Smooth Wheels Coster as being low paying, while being highly demanding and dangerous. Their caravans are sometimes undermanned, and recently a few have disappeared without a trace.

  • SMOOTH WHEELS TRADING COSTER: Offer cut rate services, run by families Riverside and Sanais
