The sky is the limit and anyone with guts and ambition can become rich and powerful is the pervading tone in this land. In this
lawless and wild area brigandry is common, and dirty deeds and bullying are the norm. Nevertheless, a few good souls can still
be found who risk their lives in the name of the King (or for their own beliefs) to 
protect the simple folk caught in the cross-fire. The situation is extremely explosive given the number of troops, most eager for action and looting, that each Baron has at their command. Most
are not well trained, but they number over 20,000. They are of a broad range of types, from elephant mounted archers to hired Gnomes with
slings, but the realm is not known for producing any type of troop of particular note.
BACKGROUND
A strongly Mantaten state, which until recently was more commonly known as the Onuin (or "eastern" in Tahlian) Kingdom, ruled by a
series of hereditary kings from Iftos since 3759. However, the most recent king is incapable of rule, and the country has disintegrated
into virtual chaos. The "holdings" being "held" in the name of the king are now no more than a number of free cities,
independent regions, and breakaway fiefdoms.
FACTIONS
The Capital City of Iftos is not a freetown, and is held by the King. In his current state his Constable administers the City. She is Constable Orais Belafour, and in this role she is aided by:
- The Captain of the Guard (military): Pharique of Emais
- The Chief Deputy of the Watch (police): Calinor Demros
- The Royal Exchequer (taxes and the national Mint in Iftos): Delnor Gantifal
This group represents a strong LOYALIST (to the King) faction. This Faction's strongest support comes from the good-aligned Priesthoods, with whom they are politically aligned.
The King's Court has lost a lot of clout with the decline of the King's facilities (and parallel loss of authority), and its members make up the core of the LEGALIST faction. They
argue that since the King can no longer fulfill his duties, he is "legally" obliged to step down. They are each very powerful, and supported by their own beaurocracy and
funtionaries. They are:
- High Chamberlain Amireau
- High Chancellor Xoconne (secretly a Loyalist)
- High Justice Aldavir
- High Marshal Norisse
- High Mage Elwanad
The Earls and their Barons enjoy their new power and freedom. They (most of them at least) make up the DIVISIONIST faction, urging that the state be divided up.
Finally, there are numerous outsiders with their own interests and plans that have moved in. Together, but by no means in any organized or unified way, they make up the FACTIONIST group.
