Shield of the Western Kingdom THE WESTERN KINGDOM Shield of the Western Kingdom

MAPS

As the Magedom is to magic, so is the Western Kingdom to fighting forces in the Geldron peninsula. Its moderate-sized standing army is very well trained and has exceptional morale. It contains large bodies of ring clad horse-mounted lancers, two corps of light skirmishers with short bow and leather armor, and several specialized corps.

North towards the Fairchild Mountain

These special units include mountaineers, Giant-killers, a Corp of Thieves trained the use of invisibility and stealth to kill Mages, and another Corp of Hippogriff-mounted scouts and deep-strike troops. The balance consists of leather clad archers, ring clad troops with long sword and shield, and a minority of "box defense" trained pikemen in splint mail. Economically, the region has lost control of the mines it used to defend, but now makes almost as much money selling its troop as mercenaries to the highest bidder. Although the Magedom has the deepest pockets they are seldom in the bidding, leaving Venelland and Targon to select the pick of the crop. Their mercenary troops are famed for their loyalty to their employer; even battling brother against brother if both are hired to opposing sides.

BACKGROUND

Established in 3217 as an outpost on the Azure Sea during the time of the Palm Kingdom, its primary focus was defending the mines in the Mitanpen Mountains to the north and striking against the Giant enclaves throughout the nearby peaks. It succeeded on all fronts, and when the internecine battles that destroyed the Palm Kingdom gave rise to the Magedom of Dalmask [3552], the Western Kingdom was forced to create its own small state.

It had relied heavily on infusions of gold from the rulers in Angalore to support itself, and very nearly collapsed with the insurrection that led to the creation of the Magedom. However, urgent requests for military support (which were well paid for) from both sides in the rebellion soon showed them a new way to fill their coffers.
