Shield of the Magedom of Dalmask THE MAGEDOM OF DALMASK Shield of the Magedom of Dalmask

MAPS

Debauched to the core and and coldly heartless , plots are hatched every night in the steamy alleys of its cities and towns. This ancient land with its powerful ruling Mages who scheme and intrigue endlessly also has a wealth of knowledge and a healthy dose of distrust for all strangers. While the combined prowess of the native Mages -- even that of the ruler and his Phelange (or Regent’s Council) alone -- protects the realm from overt threats, its very paranoia and cruel ways allows smaller threats to go virtually unnoticed.

Militarily, there are some traditional troops, inbcluding a few Legions of medium foot, several divisions of light horse mounted skirmishers and heavy elephant crossbow shock troops, but most traditional defense rests on reputation alone. The more dedicated troops, particularly the active Orders defending specific areas or causes and Griffin-mounted deep strike platoons, feel a little slighted. This is in part due the lack of finances and the focus on Western Kingdom troops, but mostly due to the belief (perhaps accurate) that few would seek to assault the Magedom directly for fear of the magical retribution.

BACKGROUND

Mantaten tribes had created agrarian Chancais about 10,000 years ago, and during the Migration Wars huge infusions of Burdue slaves gave rise to Knor 7,700 years ago. Knor collapsed with Firefall, and populations rebounded while local villages quietly prospered until almost 2600 years later when the Auloron Federation was founded in the Krinth River valley. Subsequent battles with the Psionic Oligarchy (ca. 2765 – 2821) left the Federation weakened, and the Free City of Angalore subsumed it. Ruled briefly after the war by a Dalmaskian Military government, this budding regional power was virtually wiped out during the Elemental Wars and the Yetdark, but arose thereafter as the Palm Kingdom [3187 – 3552].

At its height, the Palm Kingdom created the Western [3217] and Venel provinces [3258], which later seceded during the internecine battles (Palm Revolution [3550 – 3532]) which dethroned the last of the Palm Kings and created the Magedom of Dalmask. The remaining core area was named after the Mage Dalmask who had brought the Free City of Angalore (and the region) to prominence through his efforts in combating the Psionic Oligarchy during the Mind Wars.
