SURISSSecret Societies are the obverse of "Orders", in that while all members supposedly share a common interest or goal, they bestow no honours or prestige upon their members precisely because they are so secretive. Of the Orders, only the Responsible Magical Order, the Warders of the Seal, is borderline between an Order and a Secret Society (given its relatively reclusive ways). Similarly, the Secret Society, Chung Mai San is virtually an Order at its lower levels, as many are aware of its more public mercantile activities. Also, the Fellowship of Bards makes less of an effort to be secretive than most such groups, but has so few active members (and is so derided by those who know of them) that they still fit this definition.
The Secret Societies listed here are those of significant scope and influence (even if it is seldom noticed), but not necessarily the largest membership. There are many dozens more of smaller or regional Secret Societies, some with more members than those listed here, but these are the organizations that truly fuel the nightmares of conspiracy theorists across Trishore.
