TRISHORE CONTINENT

OVERVIEW

Our world of Seteria is but a rocky ball, covered with a thin layer of water and soil, beneath the merest wisp of gas that all upon it breathe. Through travels in the Astral plane, the Ethereal plane, and dimensional portals we know of other many other worlds, some with different physical laws, and some that even know not of magic nor the Gods. Most of these worlds orbit a sun, as we do Solaris, but it appears that our magic provides us with a greater range of -- and more magnificent -- landforms and geography.

Also, the transitions from one region or topography appear to be more abrupt here than in some other realms. Interestingly, most of these worlds, whether virtually identical to our own in a sort of "parallel world" or even based on mechanics and electrical energies, still follow our physical laws: water usually runs downhill.

PHYSICAL GEOGRAPHY

Seteria is a planet of some 13,000 km in diameter, with an orbital period of 372 days. It is second in orbit out from a yellow sun known as Solaris. Seteria is surrounded by an airless vacuum. Magic provides the most reliable means to visit the other bodies that orbit Solaris, but this practice is by no means common. Spelljamming ships traverse this void occasionally, but visitors from outside our circle of planets are rare in the extreme. All of the planets that whirl about in Solaris' gravitational pull do so in one flat orbital plane. The planets in order of distance from Solaris are:

  • Micor: a tiny barren planet
  • Seteria: orbited by one moon known as Lunaris which has no atmosphere
  • Rim: a world that exists solely due to magic, forming a massive hollow tube which invariably points at Seteria
  • Opal: a massive bright green gas giant, orbited by two earth-sized moons ("Jitt" and "Daiyim"), each of which has a breathable atmosphere
  • Bordia: another earth-sized planet, with breathable air, oceans and mountains (such is the power of magic even this far from Solaris), orbited by a tight maze of asteroids known as "Cilyph" with no gravity but their own linked and breathable atmosphere
  • Sparkles: an huge cometary belt at the outer reaches of this system
Seteria has a core of molten metal, home only to creatures that can thrive under such intense heat and pressure. Floating upon this thick soup are at least three massive sheets of rock, atop which ride the earth and rock upon which we live. Movement of these giant sheets, known as "plates" and their rubbing and banging against one another has historically created earthquakes and various types of volcanic activity.

However, one event has overshadowed all other such natural geological forces on Trishore for over 4,000 years. "Firefall", a massive exposion that nearly destroyed our planet released massive amounts of latent tectonic stress at the same time as dust and soot in the air altered the climate to a time of ice for centuries. Since then tectonic activity (notably earthquakes and volcanoes) have been virtually non-existent.

MEASURES AND DISTANCES: While the Calendar on Trishore is uniform across vast areas and for many cultures, the units of measure for distance and length are not so settled. The Gypsy Queens brough units of measure that included kilometers, meters, and other such parameters. Traditional measures used miles, feet and inches. Both are used freely across Trishore today, and as such will be found at different times and different places within these documents. Both are accurate and correct in the context they are found.

CULTURAL GEOGRAPHY

The continent of Trishore is characterized by various Races, many different Countries, and a vibrant History. The non-human races have backgrounds spanning millennia, but over the relatively recent time humans have walked Seteria's face, their Governments and Religious institutions have already left an indelible mark on Trishore.

In the end, it is this variety and richness that makes Trishore as remarkable a place as we all know it to be.
