- Mantagish
-
The Mantagish language is the Mother Tongue, or root language, of the Mantaten kindred languages.
- Mares Tail Peak
-
Seteria's tenth tallest mountain, Mares Tail Peak is the westernmost of the Dolomites and
the Snowplume Mountains. It is a dormant volcano, but at 7845m tall it is still tall enough
to create the long feathery cloud streamers which give it its name. The horse herders and breeders of the Denlor Plains
below it claim it good luck for a foal to be born when the clouds are streaming from Mares Tail Peak.
- Memerioblygad
-
A list of rights and privileges jointly signed by King Arym Memerio and 71 of his Lords in what would become the Kingdom of Schew. It includes such principles as limiting the levy of taxes
not approved by this council of Lords (or "Parliament"), and the responsibilities of the King to his Lords and vice versa. Directly translated from Ylthic the name means "Memerio's constitution".
Since its signing in 3850 it has been the cornerstone of Schewian politics.
- Mendosia
-
A large island close off the south-east shore of mainland Trishore. Mendosia is noted for the sudden and dangerous storms and treacherous currents in their offshore waters, but also for the rich fishing found
in those same waters. The island supports human and humanoid populations which, due to their relative isolation, have developed a variety of unique characteristics. The humans are all part of one nation, the Seaholders Realm. The Seaholders are not known
well on the mainland, but virtually all would agree that their ship-buiding skills and the designs of their ships are beyond that of any other nation.
- Meredom Farers
- Virtual owners of the seas around them, the Meredom Farers are often accused of piracy. Their stockaded villages and superb sailing skills protect rich fishing grounds and bountiful forests.
[MAP]
- Mersey
- The first Ylthic state on the main body of the Trishore continent. Founded approximately 6500 years
ago, it covered much of the southern portion of the eastern seaboard, and
the Xyrog Peninsula.
- Mira
- Mira is a Lesser Goddess of Art and Craft in the Ylthic Pantheon.
- Migration Wars, The
- Epic battles fought over a period of centuries (most intensively from about 6900 to 6500 years ago in the middle of
the so-called Bronze Age) as the earliest human migrants to the area fought for land, food and
supremacy. These racial battles ended thousands of years ago, but the echoes still linger in mistrust and animosity between
many humans of different races and kindreds. All told, the deaths are thought to total in the millions.
- Mistvale
- A monstrous, yawning valley, over 850 km long and almost 150 km wide at a few points, it is most notable
for its depth and steep walls. In fact, it is almost 4000 m to valley floor from the surrounding plains in most
places. And within is fertile "bowl" virtually overflowing with foul and evil creatures. Unlike its
cousin Illabode to the east, Mistvale has a structure of sorts. Although a gross over-simplification, one
can think of this land as the home of Evil, where Law contends with Chaos from opposite ends of the rift.
- Morning Tree
- A rare, one might even say endangered tree, the Morning Tree is a bane to all evil things. It is tall but narrow,
with yellowy-green deciduous leaves, each of which has long thin slits in it. These leaves turn a glowing orange before
falling each winter. Morning Trees are long-lived, and can reach heights of up to 100'. It is usually found only in the
mid-latitudes (Amos Woods, Sytar Forest, Melope Forest, etc.), but is highly adaptable to all but the coldest and hottest
climes or the thinnest of soils. The tree is highly flammable, its wood is very soft (while attractively grained), and its
fruit is a cluster of small purple berries which only squirrels seem to find palatable due to bitterness.
Thus the tree is seldom harvested, all the more so for its unique and valuable pollen it exudes all summer, every summer
while it lives. The pollen is produced only it tiny quantities (and cannot be collected in any known fashion), but it is
very foul in scent to all evil creatures and humanoids. Unless there is a strong breeze to blow the pollen rapidly away,
all such creatures must save versus spell every round or suffer a penalty on all activities they undertake. This is due
to the uncomfortableness and irritation the scent of the pollen causes them. It affects all such creatures in a 60'
radius. The penalty is -1 during the day, and -2 during the night when the tree exudes more pollen. Once the saving throw
is failed this penalty is in effect until the victim leaves the area for at least 1 turn.
Moreover, while the effects are not cumulative, evil creatures in the area of effect must continue to roll their saves every round,
even if already affected by the penalty. This is because on any unmodified save of 1-4, the creature is afflicted as if struck by
a forget spell (no save).
It is these effects, most pronounced at night, that give the tree its name: those who sleep under it are more likely to see the
morning. It is rare or endangered because many creatures, particularly orcs, kill Morning Trees if they can.
While the tree is seldom harvested, its wood is sometimes called for in the manufacture of certain magical items.
